Pier
Profile

Sok Kwu Wan Pier No.2 is located at Lamma Island in Islands District. Lamma Island is the fourth largest island in Hong Kong. The main access to Lamma Island is by water transport. At present, Sok Kwu Wan Pier No.2 is mainly used by Kaito and licensed ferry company which provides ferry services between Central and Sok Kwu Wan. The pier length and berthing facilities of the existing pier are found inadequate, and it doesn’t meet the current needs, for example, it lacks barrier-free facilities.

Key design considerations for this pier improvement project includes extending pier head to appropriate water depth, providing adequate water depth for berthing, improving boarding and access facilities, such as adding landing platforms along the steps which connect to the pier ground by a ramp to facilitate boarding and alighting of passengers, improving the waiting area in terms of comfort and safety by providing new facilities, such as a pier cover and seats.
